To all my 24.com/letterdash fans: Yes, Almost Pregnant is still going strong and will hopefully be finished before 2011!! I had to move my blog from Letterdash because 24.com email service closed down and I lost all my login info.
To the newcomers, here’s some more information about me and my book:
First of all, let me introduce you to our little family:
John is my wonderful husband – 36, smart, handsome and a very busy corporate, loving husband and devoted daddy.
Sam is my amazing son – born November 2009, beautiful, adorable, gorgeous and of course, extremely clever!
My name is Hannah – I am 38, blessed to be the wife of an incredible man and proud mommy to the sweetest boy in the whole world. I am also infertile. Our adoptive baby was placed in our arms when he was a few seconds old and he hasn’t left it since.
Our story, like so many true stories, isn’t always a happy one. And if you’re looking for an easy read I’m afraid my book isn’t going to do it for you. Because it’s never easy to read about pain and anguish and sadness and trials. But my book is also a story of hope, of miracles and of succeeding against terrible odds – thus the tag line An incredible journey of hope through Infertility, IVF and Adoption. Here’s the foreword to my book, it explains exactly what the book is about:
You get married, go on honeymoon, fall pregnant, have babies and live happily ever after right? Well, apparently not. This is the true story of a couple’s very real battle with childlessness and their endless efforts to make their dream of raising a baby together true.
With brutal honesty and witty humour the reader is taken on a rollercoaster ride of pain, laughter, disappointment, heartbreak, loss and ultimately incredible happiness. This book does not only tell their very personal tale of infertility, numerous IVF treatments and their adoption journey, but is also an invaluable source of information on these subjects. So together with a personal glimpse into the writer’s life, you are presented with the raw facts about infertility and adoption that you don’t read about in other books.
This book is a first for the South African market who had to make do with overseas books that weren’t always relevant about the topic of fertility treatments and especially adoption. But although you are presented with cold hard facts it is softened by the very real and personal story of the author’s struggle have a child. A step by step guide to adoption procedures, documents (e.g. the “Life Story” scrapbook for birthparents) and contact details are also provided. A very handy contact list for fertility treatments, egg donor companies, fertility centres, adoption agencies and social workers are included in the last chapter of the book.
So whether you’re looking for facts about infertility and adoption or whether you’re just looking for a good read, you’ve found the right book. A thoroughly enjoyable read!
I want to thank all the wonderful women at www.ourpreciousmoments.org. I will never forget that you were there every agonizing day before, during and in the earlydays after the adoption. I am forever grateful for your love, compassion and amazing support. May you all be blessed for your incredible effort to create a safe haven for women like me that have been battered and bruised by infertility!
And of course, to my amazing family and AWESOME husband: Thank you. From the bottom of my heart.
Until next time!!!
Hannah
